Miguel Ángel Cortés

The Granadan guitarist Miguel Ángel Cortés Urbano (1972) is one of the most respected names in contemporary flamenco guitar. Born in Sacromonte, he began at the age of eight in the atmosphere of the zambras. Throughout his career he has accompanied figures such as Carmen Linares, Enrique Morente (collaborating on the legendary album *Omega*), Estrella Morente, José Mercé and Arcángel, in addition to touring as a soloist. He was awarded the Giraldillo Prize for guitar playing at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla in 2014 and the 1st Paco de Lucía Guitar Competition in 1994, standing out for his virtuosity and his ability to connect traditional purity with harmonic evolution.
